The Kh-31 (Russian: Х -31; AS-17 'Krypton') [7] is a Soviet and Russian air-to-surface missile carried by aircraft such as the MiG-29, Su-35 and the Su-57. It is capable of Mach 3.5 and was the first supersonic anti-ship missile that could be launched by tactical aircraft. [6]

The Kh-31AD is a stretched extended range variant of the Kh-31A with an enlarged warhead. The improved Leninetz ARGS-31E active seeker can acquire over a wider field of regard and operates in sea states 4 to 5.

Kh-31AD aircraft high-speed tactical anti-ship missile is designed for hitting the combat (assault) surface ships and carrier vessels proceeding as part of the groups (convoys) or unaccompanied.

At present, a high-speed anti-ship missile Kh-31AD is created on the basis of Kh-31A (see photo 1, photo 2, photo 3, photo 4, photo 5). The X-31AD differs from its prototype by a much longer launch range (up to 120-160 km) and a 15% increase in combat unit capacity.

The Kh-31AD is a long range, high speed, anti-ship missile intended to engage a wide range of surface ships such as destroyers, amphibious assault ships and cargo vessels from distances of up to 160 kilometers with the carrier aircraft flying at 1.5 Mach and 15,000 meters of altitude.
