The German educator Gunild Keetman (5 June 1904, Elberfeld – 14 December 1990, Breitbrunn) was the primary originator of the approach to teaching music known as Orff Schulwerk. [1]

Gunild Keetman (1904-1990) was a composer, performer and teacher who played a critical role in the development and spread of Orff Schulwerk (Orff Schoolwork). Carl Orff frequently said that the Schulwerk could not have come into being without Keetman’s essential contributions.

It was developed by the German composer Carl Orff (1895–1982) and colleague Gunild Keetman during the 1920s. Orff worked until the end of his life to continue the development and spread of his teaching method.

Releasing creativity that extends far beyond the music classroom, Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman conceived an approach to building musicianship in every learner through the integration of music, movement, speech, and drama.

Gunild Keetman never stopped being interested in music and art and dancing. When she grew up she decided to study about music and art history and physical education. She believed that these things were all important for children.
