May 28, 2019 · The award to Kalahari Energy leads to negotiations with the procuring authority and provides for the design, procurement and construction of the first CBM-fuelled power plant in Botswana, creating employment opportunity for between 1,200 and 1,500 workers during the construction phase.

Kalahari Energy is the only company in Botswana dedicated entirely to commercialising the coal bed methane resources in the region. Our first prospecting activities started almost 20 years ago.

The majority of Botswana’s coal beds are not suitable for conventional mining, being located deep underground and in relatively thin seams. Only about 20% of Botswanas power is provided by a conventional coal fired power station.
