Kakabeka Generating Station is a hydroelectric facility operated by Ontario Power Generation on the bank of the Kaministiquia River, 2 km (1.2 mi) downstream from Kakabeka Falls in the community of Kakabeka Falls, Ontario, 30 km (19 mi) west of Thunder Bay. The plant provides energy to the city of Thunder Bay and area.

Kakabeka Falls Generating Station (GS) has been producing clean, renewable electricity for 118 years, making it the second-oldest facility in OPG’s hydroelectric fleet and much of its original equipment from 1906 is still in operation.

Kakabeka Falls Generating Station is located on the Kaministiquia River system adjacent to the village of Kakabeka Falls. This station went into service in 1906 with two generating units. Two additional units were added in 1911 and 1914, respectively.

Kakabeka Falls GS Redevelopment Purpose: Upgrades will ensure the station continues generating reliable electricity for another 90 years, while improving public safety and using available water flows more efficiently.
