Kahawa 1893 is a specialty coffee company founded by Margaret Nyamumbo, a third-generation coffee farmer from Kenya. She founded Kahawa 1893 to help empower the women in the coffee trade. We source specialty grade and rare beans from East Africa.

“Kahawa” means “coffee” in Swahili -- our language -- and 1893 is when our story begins. While coffee’s origins can be traced back to ancient forests in Ethiopia, coffee had to travel around the world before it made its way back to Africa in the late 1800s.
