Instead of “thee” in Japanese Kaathe uses the word “kikoura hito”. This has some origins in pre-modern Japanese, but based on usage elsewhere, and later in this speech, it’s used in DS to refer to “humans”. And doing that also requires you to defeat Sif, who's behind the locked door in the forest (requires seal of artorias, can be bought from Andre). You can also only talk to kaathe if you've never talked to frampt before.

Jan 23, 2021 · The only way to meet Kaathe is to beat the 4 kings before ringing the 2nd bell, which means that it's impossible to aquire the lordvessel prior to meeting Kaathe. In order to fight the 4 kings (at any point), you need to drain New Londo ruins.

That’s what makes me wonder whether placing the Lordvessel on Frampt’s behalf triggers something which prevents Kaathe from intervening, but I’m having trouble finding much to suggest either way.
