Number 4162 was built in February 1953 as KCS GP7 162 (c/n 17932), rebuilt aftwr wreck damage by EMD to GP9 specifications in October 1954. It was renumbered during 1973 from 162 to 4162, and a low short hood was applied by KCS during February 1984.

Here were Louisiana & North West GP9 4163, GP7 4153 and caboose 215 parked near the railroad's engine house at Gibsland. The two geeps has had been built as Kansas City Southern 163 and 153, and were sold to the L&NW in 1987.

Kansas City Southern 4164, one of only three GP9's bought new by the railroad, was up on jacks in the diesel shop at WEST YARD, just west of New Orleans. At this time, the locomotive was regularly used in local service out of here.

KCS GP9 4162 and F7's 71 and 95 at Heavener, Oklahoma, date and photographer unknown (possibly Steve Laser), slide from Chuck Zeiler collection. All information is a guess, the slide was unmarked. Any help would be appreciated.
