"K" Line America, Inc. (KAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha ("K" Line), is the North American General Agent for "K" Line. Founded in 1990 and headquartered in the Richmond, Virginia area since 1997, KAM supports "K" Line's business operations in the Car Carrier, Bulk, and Energy sectors.

In 1968, "K" Line completed construction of the Toyota Maru No. 1, a multi-level car carrier with a capacity of 1,250 vehicles. Since then, "K" Line has continued to focus its energy and passion as a pioneer in the transport of completely built-up cars.

Keeping environmental conservation in mind, "K" Line has been striving for replacement of single-hulled tankers with double-hulled tankers. Prevention of oil spill accidents at sea is a top-priority assignment of "K" Line, and 10 out of 11 tankers we are now operating are in fact double-hulled.

As a pioneer in the transport of automobiles using pure car carriers (PCC), "K" Line provides services for the safe and timely transport of completely built-up cars (CBU). "K" Line entered the CBU transport service in 1970 with the Toyota Maru No. 10, Japan's first PCC.

Utilizing technology and experience from LNG activities and in cooperation with US based EnerSea Transport, "K" Line is focusing its efforts on developing the industry’s leading CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) carrier.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K" Line) announced today that they will establish their own shipping agency in Vietnam as a joint venture operation together with a local Vietnamese company.
