The Junkers Ju 87, popularly known as the " Stuka ", [b] is a German dive bomber and ground-attack aircraft. Designed by Hermann Pohlmann, it first flew in 1935. The Ju 87 made its combat debut in 1937 with the Luftwaffe 's Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939 and served the Axis in World War II from beginning to end (1939–1945).

The Ju 87B was the classic Stuka with a redesigned fuselage, big wheel pants, squared away greenhouse, and vertically louvered, overbite chin radiator. It was fitted with a more powerful 1,200 hp (880 kW) Junkers Jumo 211D engine and could carry a 500 kg (1,100 lb) main bomb.
The first production version was the Ju 87B-1, with a considerably larger engine, its Junkers Jumo 211D generating 1,184 hp, and completely redesigned fuselage and landing gear.
