Jonathan "Jon" Robert Elrod (born May 3, 1977) is an American attorney and politician. He is a former member of the Indiana House of Representatives from District 97.

Dr. Elrod leads a multidisciplinary lab working in the fields of mitochondrial biology, metabolism, fibrosis, and cell death in the context of cardiac injury, heart failure, and neurodegeneration. The lab has made several discoveries in the field of mitochondrial biology.

He was the Republican Party candidate in the Indiana's 7th congressional district special election held on March 11, 2008 to fill a vacant seat, losing to Democrat André Carson.

The Lab of Molecular Medicine is a basic science research lab under the direction of Dr. John Elrod, PhD. The Lab is part of the Center for Translational Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine. The lab's research is focused on mitochondria biology and mechanisms of cell death with a clinical focus on heart disease.
