The design on the left is reminiscent of a normal high school student, and it comes from a stage when the director wanted characters who looked flashy, but the final result looked like a generic anime/manga hero.

Joker is a male teenage character created by artist Shigenori Soejima for the 2016 video game Persona 5. In the game, he is a second-year high school student who is charged with assault by Masayoshi Shido, an influential politician in the Cabinet of Japan, after witnessing him harassing a female subordinate.

Feb 13, 2021 · Persona 5 is a role-playing game by ATLUS in which players live out a year in the life of a high school boy who gains the ability to summon facets of his psyche, known as Personas. In P4, they designed Yu to look like a dog. For P5, they designed Joker to look like a cat, which is probably why they changed his look.
