The Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), Japan's national standardization body, plays a central role in developing standards in Japan covering a wide range of products and technologies from robots to pictograms.

JIS - Japanese Industrial Standards specifies the standards used for industrial activities in Japan. The standardization process is coordinated by Japanese Industrial Standards Committee - JISC - and published through Japanese Standards Association - JSA.

Based on JISC recommendations, 79 new standards were published, 3 49 standards were revised, 57 standards were withdrawn and 2,038 standards were confirmed in 20 23 FY. As of March 31, 20 24, there are 10, 966 active JIS.

The Japan Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), a body attached to METI and in charge of surveying and deliberating on industrial standards, offers searchable databases on its website. They are however in Japanese.

All JIS are published by Japanese Standards Association (JSA). English versions of JIS are published by JSA.

Standards cover all fields of industrial and mineral products except medicines, agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers, which are established under other laws.
