Nov 30, 2004 · I want to fit 6.5" speakers in my stock overhead speaker pods on my 04 TJ (OEM speakers are 5.25"). My goal is to retain the factory grill so everything looks stock. I'm thinking this is a common subject to other 03-04 TJ owners. I am hoping anyone with 03-04 TJ overhead speaker pod knowledge will share their expertise!

Dec 13, 2012 · I ordered a pair of Polk DB651s speakers for mine, and when I first tried to install them I ran into the same thing. I was wanting to keep the original grills and it just wasn't working. I ordered a pair of 6.5 inch speaker spacer/adapters. It looks like you mount the adapter to the pod, and then the speaker to the adapter.

Jan 22, 2004 · The issue for the sound pods ('03 and newer) is that the OEM speakers insert into the pods and the factory grill is flush with the pod. There is a good bit of room for something larger than 5 1/4. If they made a 6-3/8th (vs. a 6-1/2), then I think I could get it to fit like the OEM.

Jun 10, 2013 · Fabricated metal bracket for the front with two 5-1/4 speakers fit into poly filled pods. Bought pods for the 6-1/2 rear speakers poly filled them as well and through bolted them with stainless through the wheel well. The pods are pretty good but filling them with poly fill will make them better.

May 15, 2007 · Here are 2 shots. New speakers, bending in the mount tabs more I will be able to get it flush into the original speaker position. The only problem is going to be that both the old stock grill and the new infinity grill won't fit with the speaker installed in this fashion. But it is a tight fit and will not move once setup.

Mar 13, 2011 · I have an 06 Jeep TJ. It has the Stock Jeep Sound Pods on the Bar. Im looking at replacing these speakers above and was curious to if there was any speaker that would just go right into the original hole. Some say the 5 1/4 will fit while others say it wont. Just seeing what the input is from people who have done it. Thanks!, Dan
