Nov 30, 2008 · To check the rear axle, look under the rear of the Jeep and look at the differential cover. If it is round/oval shaped with a rubber differential plug it is a Dana 35 or Corporate 8.25 axle. If it has a steel drain plug that uses a 1/2" ratchet arbor to remove it it is a Dana 44.

May 17, 2011 · Non c-clip axle shafts have bearings pressed onto them & use a retainer plate out at the end of the axle tubes to keep them in the housing. C-clip style axles have their bearing pressed into the axle tubes & the axle shaft itself is the inner bearing race. C-clips are used in the differential carrier to keep the axles in the housing. Jan 16, 2009 · 181 axle = Dana 30 194 axle = Dana 35c 216 axle = Dana 44. The bearing caps for the Dana 35c are indeed tightened to 80 ft-lbs. Make darned sure to reinstall the bearing caps exactly as they came off... left vs. right and that the they go on facing the same direction as they came off... the end that was on top needs to be reinstalled on the top.
