The 2450 driver uses a 4 inch voice coil with 1.5 inch exit (cost of the SL diaphragm is about $80 and they only have the 8 Ohm) Part # JBL D8R2450SL The 2451 driver also uses a 4 inch voice coil but the driver itself is a 2 inch exit (like my 2446) and the cost is about $125 and they only have the 16 Ohm version (and not currently available).

The 2450 has a 4 slit phase plug & the 950 has a 5 slit phase plug... the JBL useing a 4" titanium diaphram and the Radian useing 4" aluminum phram. Radian claims there unit is a TAD killer (I dought it)

Apr 20, 2014 · hi, i have hear them both on 2380 and 18 inch with BSS x-over and 2 Bryston BSS 4. The 2446 is the Pure and Raw Jbl Sound.Loud,clear,dynamic,live. The 2450 sounds to me more softer,HiFi like. My Friend see it exact otherwise. So I think it´s a Question of Taste. As I allways say"Hearing is like Tasting"

I need to make tuff decision. I need to to keep just one pair. What should I keep, 2441,2450 or 2451? My plan is to get Truextent Be diaphragm in future.

Jun 8, 2011 · I run my stuff for PA use. I have had 2440s, 2441s, 2445s, 2446s, and now I finally got a single 2450 to compare. I retired years back and left the field. The phase plugs in the drivers changed over the years and there was definite differences (improvements) in the higher frequencies (like from 10 - 20k).

In JBL Be model it is used Be-"diamond shaped" suspension, while on Be ( truextent) diaphragm a kind of "semi rolled" polymer material is used as a suspension. So may be diaphragm to suspension interaction can produce such driver behavior.

An interesting JBL driver candidate for diaphragm replacement with Be would be the 2450. This driver was originally developed to accommodate a Be diaphragm as JBL was considering going head to head with TAD with that design. It was the reason for the development of the "Coherent Wave" phase plug.

Jun 13, 2011 · Both share the same 1.5" aperture, same bolt pattern, same diaphragm, same flux in the gap, but the 2452 only weigths 2kg whereas the 2450SL wigths more than 4kg.

If you put a 2450SL repair kit in a 2450 you will end up with a transducer that does not match any JBL part. If you put a 2450SL repair kit in a 2451 you will end up with a 2450SL. Last edited by Dave Zan; 09-23-2004 at 01:47 AM .
