The National Iwo Jima Memorial remembers the men and women who served on Iwo Jima and throughout World War II, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country. It serves to educate the public about the battle of Iwo Jima and the heroism of the Americans who served there.

In 1987, the Iwo Jima Survivors Association was founded by Dr. George Gentile to perpetuate the memory of those who served in the Battle for Iwo Jima and those who were killed in action. He was also instrumental in creating the National Iwo Jima Memorial Monument & Park in Newington/New Britain Connecticut.

Oct 5, 2023 · The National Iwo Jima Memorial was conceived and built by the Iwo Jima Survivors Association, led by Dr. George Gentile. On Feb 23, 1995 the monument was dedicated in memory of the 6,821 Americans who lost their lives on Iwo Jima, 50 years after the iconic flag raising depicted by the monument.

The National Iwo Jima Memorial is located in Newington, CT and New Britain, CT. It memorializes the men and women who fought on Iwo Jima in World War II, including the 100 Connecticut men who died there in 1945.
