The Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) measured individual student achievement based on the Illinois Learning Standards. The results of this score were applied to the No Child Left Behind Act , to identify failing schools.

Starting with the 2005–2006 administration, ISAT includes a combination of items produced by Pearson-San Antonio and items written by Illinois teachers. Items from these two sources are combined into new forms that are scored and analyzed as a single test.

Illinois Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT) in reading and mathematics. Students in grades 4 and 7 took ISAT tests in science. Because of re-cent changes in state legislation, students in grades 3, 5, and 8 were not tested in writing, and students in grades 4 and 7 were not tested in so-cial sciences, fine arts, or physical development and health.
