In order to carry on our outdoor traditions, we need to connect youth and families to the land. IDNR has created the Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP) by utilizing resources obtained from the US Department of Agriculture’s NRCS Voluntary Public Access–Habitat Incentive Program (VPA-HIP).

The Illinois Recreational Access Program (IRAP) is a public access program for specific outdoor recreational activities. It is funded through the USDA Voluntary Public Access-Habitat Improvement Program (VPA-HIP).

The IRAP Access Permits are provided through the cooperation of landowners and the IL Dept of Natural Resources. Participating in this program is a special privilege. Please be respectful, ethical and safe outdoor recreationalists.
IRAP leases private land from landowners to provide access for youth and adult spring turkey hunting, youth shotgun and youth and adult archery deer hunting, upland game hunting, waterfowl hunting, and squirrel and rabbit hunting, as well as pond and river fishing.

Online Registration is now available for participants to register and reserve a site for fishing, rabbit and squirrel hunting on IRAP leased private property. Note: You are not required to register as a participate for Turkey, Deer, Waterfowl or Upland Game Hunting.
