6 SATA drives, need "Interposer" and Tray/Caddy? - Dell
May 31, 2007 · In order to use SATA drives mentioned above with the PowerEdge 2950, I will need to use an "interposer" adapter for each drive I want to connect up to the SAS backplane on the PowerEdge 2950. My questions are: Generally, will a setup with six SATA drives purchased from a third party work? Do I need these "interposer" cards for the SATA drives?

confused. PERC5+SATA, no interposer - Dell
May 4, 2007 · My understanding is that SATA drives must be connected to PERC 5 backplane with an interposer board (part #PN939). This was also confirmed by a DELL tech on the phone. What I am confused about is that DELL's SATA came installed without an interposer board. Looking into the drive bays, I can see markings such as "J_SASDRV0" and so on through 5.

Interposers - what are they for? - Dell
Oct 10, 2011 · The interposer chip provides that service. SATA drives connected using the interposer should appear to the system as SAS drives. The interposer also preserves signal quality in large backplane implementations while providing additional buffer and multiplexer services that enable active-active access (dual path controller redundancy).
Confusion; What (really) is an Interposer Board used for? - Dell
Nov 24, 2013 · The interposer adds a lot of functionality to the drive. The primary function of the interposer is redundant pathing. SATA has a single path, and SAS has a dual path. SATA Hard Drive Adapter Interposer Connector - Dell
Aug 13, 2023 · I'm having an issue with an interposer/cable and I can't get it to latch properly. It's for a hard drive I physically installed myself, and it came with the interposer but it won't stay under the plastic latch. I'm worried it came to me broken. When I opened the computer, I also discovered an empty screw hole over the hard drive, which was odd.
Interposer board/connector - Dell

I don't think the 1501 uses an interposer board at all - you should see a small data connector with an L-shaped lip on one side, and a larger (but still small) power connector that's the same. If you've purchased an EIDE case for the drive, return it and order a SATA one.
