Insect Queen is a name used by several characters in the DC Universe. The first Insect Queen was Lana Lang, a friend of Superboy and honorary member of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Her powers come from a ring that gives her the physical abilities of various insects and arachnids.

In gratitude, the alien gave her a "bio-genetic" ring which allowed Lana to gain insect (and insect-like, such as arachnids) characteristics. Lana created a yellow honeybee -like costume and mask, and took the name "Insect Queen", under which identity Lana had several adventures.

One day Lana rescued an insect-like alien trapped by a fallen tree in Smallville. In gratitude, the alien gave her a Bio-Genetic Ring which allowed Lana to gain insect (and insect-like, such as arachnids) characteristics.

The Lana Lang of this world grew up in Smallville but also never became the Insect Queen. Later, as an adult, gained powers of energy manipulation and became known as Superwoman (Superwoman #1).

Lana becomes the Insect Queen after rescuing an insectoid alien trapped by a fallen tree, just outside of Smallville. Grateful, the alien gives her a bio-genetic ring which allows her to gain insect characteristics (as well as the characteristics of insect-like creatures, such as other arthropods).

She first appeared as Insect Queen in The Superman Family (DC, 1974 series) #213 (December 1981). Post-Crisis: Lana Lang was transformed into the Insect Queen in Supergirl (DC, 2005 series) #50 (April 2010).
