Aug 14, 2012 · R1A1 was a designation that Century made up for their more recent FALs, and has no military significance attached to the name. They were built using whatever parts they had on hand at the time, hence their nickname of "Franken-FAL". Some R1A1s were competently-built and shoot great.

May 14, 2006 · My first FAL was a Century R1A1 (on Imbel)---still have it, runs great and started a whole new type of rifle addiction---now I have a DSA, ARS and Imbel 444 also. ETA: Imbel receivers are often fetching over $400 alone since the import ban a few months ago.

Apr 19, 2009 · There is a Century R1A1 sitting in my safe right now that is Inch pattern. Nobody other than Century has touched it. My wife ordered it for me back when they were still ~$400. Metric mags won't stay in this gun after shot #3, inch mags lock up perfect.

Jun 29, 2017 · My first FAL was a Century R1A1, but it was a drastically riskier proposition, since it was built on a Hesse receiver. It took a bit of tinkering to make it reliable, but FALs are easy to work on. The Imbel receiver makes this one a very safe bet, and the price is decent. I'd buy it.

Imbel and Century receiver could be all inch or all metric cut or a hybird of the two. Usually inch cut but taking metric mags and somtime a metric cocking handle. Jun 7, 2009 · The Non-Gear Logo Imbels are typically marked with Century's rifle designation (R1A1, L1A1 Sporter, etc) on them (Century imported the non gear logo Imbels). Even though many of said receivers were never built into Century guns, and sold as receivers only, the Century marked receivers still carry one of the "stigma" of being Century marked.

Jul 17, 2005 · You will see references to IMBEL F A Ls. IMBEL is a weapons manufacturer in Brazil and they make fine firearms. If you buy a Springfield Armory 1911, you are buying a gun made mostly in brazil by IMBEL. G1 stands for Gewehr Eienz or Rifle One. These were made in Belgium for the German government.
