The IMBEL IA2 is a state-of-the-art, locally designed, developed and produced assault rifle, native to Brazil. The series is adopted by the various services of the Brazilian Armed Forces to overhaul an aging mixed collection of Brazilian IMBEL MD97, Belgian FN FAL, American M16A2 and German HK33 automatic rifles.

For the IA2, an early optional polymer grip flush with the forward end of the magazine housing is now a standard feature, and an optional foldable stock with six length adjustments is now offered.

Like its predecessor, it is based on the FN FAL but uses a rotating bolt instead of a tilting bolt. There will two versions, one chambered in 5.56mm NATO and another in 7.62mm NATO.

The IA2 is a gas-operated compact weapon constructed mainly with polymers. It weighs 3.6 kg and is 850 mm long (including a 33 cm barrel) and has a conventional piston/multi-lug rotary bolt system, with semi-automatic and full-automatic modes and a 750 rounds-per-minute firing rate.
