The region is full of lush green landscapes, lakes and immense forests of cedars, holm oaks and pines. It is also one of the Kingdom’s vast water reserves where the largest Oum Er-Rbia River originates.

The two lakes that provide a haven for birdlife—Lake Afennourir and Tifounassine—are Ramsar sites. But that’s not the park’s only claim to fame. The cornerstone of the park is its massive concentration of Barbary Macaque, an old-world monkey species.

Set at an altitude of 1,650 metres, Ifrane charms never ceases to amaze its visitors with its calm waves of its lakes, and the waterfalls pouring cold waters into the valleys. It is beautifully surrounded by the largest cedar forest in the world, with its picturesque green trees on the Middle Atlas Mountains slopes.

There are additional lakes and forests that complement these essential wetlands. There are over 1,000 species of vegetation with the Atlas Cedar serving as the focal point. Other common species include Algerian oak, evergreen oak, maritime pine, and the Spanish juniper.
