The DBAG Class 605, commonly known as the ICE TD is a high-speed diesel multiple unit (DMU) train, formerly in service with Deutsche Bahn and DSB. It was retired from active passenger service in 2017 after years of operational issues with one trainset being kept and repurposed as a technology testbed.

The ICE-TD was intended for certain routes without electric overhead cables such as Dresden-Munich and Munich-Zürich lines. However, the Class 605 trains (ICE-TD) experienced many technical issues and unanticipated escalation in operating cost due to the diesel fuel being fully taxed in Germany.

Currently, there are 5 different types of ICE or “Intercity-Express” trains in service: the ICE 1, ICE 2, ICE 3, ICE T and ICE TD. Popular routes include Berlin to Hamburg, Frankfurt to Baden-Baden and Hanover to Munich with frequent, prompt departures every day.
