why are separate icache and dcache needed [duplicate]
Jan 3, 2012 · Separate dCache and iCache makes it possible to fetch instructions and data in parallel. Instructions and data have different access patterns. Writes to iCache are rare. CPU designers are optimizing the iCache and the CPU architecture based on the assumption that code changes are rare.
So, exactly what is iCache? : r/starcitizen - Reddit
Mar 24, 2021 · iCache, which will allows us to record state on any dynamic arbitrary item in the universe, so you could touch down on a planet, drop a coffee cup in a forest on some remote planet, leave, and come back a month later to still see the coffee mug where you left it. iCache opens up true universe persistence for Star Citizen and enables what we are ...
What is meant by data cache and instruction cache?
@Celeritas What I am saying is that with an Icache, instead of always having fetch [wait for memory]/decode/execute the processor more often has fetch [cache hit]/decode/execute whether because the code was recently executed (loop or recent function call) or because the successive instructions were "prefetched" because the cache is filled in chunks (x86 implementations often use 64B cache blocks).
What is icache, is that a thing? Can someone fill me in please
Clive Johnson CIG@cjohnson February 12th 2023 at 12:25 pm iCache is a service that provides distributed in-memory caching of previously queried and updated data stored in a SQL database. By having the game talk to iCache instead of directly to the DB a lot of queries are avoided, reducing load on the DB, helping it scale to larger numbers of ...

c - How can I cause an instruction cache miss? - Stack Overflow
May 15, 2012 · "Instruction fetch" is part of the CPU's execution pipeline, and refers to bringing an opcode from icache into the CPU's execution unit, where it can start decoding and doing work. That is different from "instruction cache" fetching, which must happen many cycles earlier and involves the cache circuitry making a request to the main memory unit ...

With ICACHE_RAM_ATTR you put the function on the RAM. With ICACHE_FLASH_ATTR you put the function on the FLASH (to save RAM). Interrupt functions should use the ICACHE_RAM_ATTR. Function that are called often, should not use any cache attribute. Important: NEVER access your flash inside an interrupt!
