Dec 9, 2020 · I haven't seen an in-depth analysis or explanation of the tradeoffs however. For now, if I'm doing the tracking, i.e. keeping a point or small area on the subject I turn ITR off. If I'm letting the camera track more of the movement I keep ITR on. I have C1 set to ITR off and C2 set to ITR + face on but at the lower frame rate.

Sep 24, 2013 · Aside from the ability to use EOS iTR, and its companion Face Detection technology that is also used with Automatic AF point selection, AF operation with the two cameras is essentially the same.
1DX MK II - AI SERVO - iTR AF ON or OFF for Sports?
May 31, 2016 · If you're using single point expanded iTR won't make any difference. iTR tracking only turns on when using full-61 pt AF mode. The manual says zone, large zone and Automatic selection which is 61 points.

Jan 19, 2013 · 1DX EOS iTR AF can only be enabled when 61-point automatic selection or Zone AF are used. It does not function in any other modes. When enabled, focusing can take slightly longer. Page 96 in your 1DX manual. Please try it and report back here.

Jun 4, 2017 · It's not perfect, but no AF system is! The ability to designate the beginning AF point when using iTR makes all of the difference when allowing the camera to change the AF point as the subject moves around in the frame. The AF point does not suddenly jump from one side of the frame to the other.
