MSC 109 (December 2024) agreed to a revised Road Map for the development of a MASS Code, as follows: By 1 July 2030 at the latest - adoption of the mandatory Code, for entry into force on 1 Jan 2032.
New Roadmap from IMO for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships

The MSC agreed on a Road Map for developing a goal-based instrument regulating the operation of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS), which, as a first step would be in the form of a non-mandatory Code for adoption in the second half of 2024 while a mandatory MASS Code is to be developed thereafter for entry into force on 1 January 2028.
MSC104 (2021) approved a new output for the Development of a MASS Code. MSC 105 (2022) established the MASS CG to develop a non-mandatory MASS Code, to be goal-based and applicable to cargo ships, and to report to MSC 107.
