'il fait (du) soleil' in France you can also say - Il fait beau which often is seen as meaning that the sun is out. or Le soleil brille The word sunny is 'ensoleillé' but doesn't translate directly. You cannot say, 'il fait ensoleillé' You could say, 'c'est une belle journée ensoleillée' Hope this helps!

May 14, 2024 · You can also use "il fait du soleil" if that makes more sense to you. Il y a can be used for things like "il y a du vent," too, but I usually use the "il fait" for most weather types. In "il y a du soleil" you're not using sunNY as a noun, just "sun," ie "there is some sun"

I have told my students that -- even though examples can be found in multiple texts/guides in my classroom -- "Il fait du soleil.", "Il fait du vent.", etc are absolutely incorrect and sound "strange" to native French speakers.
