Jun 3, 2012 · Idn't and wadn't are EXTREMELY common where I'm from, but I do have an accent so I'm biased. It just feels smoother than isn't. It created less syllables (I don't know how to spell it) in my head, even though it doedn't actually.
Are "wadn't" and "idn't" typical of a particular region?
My grandmother used "idn't" as a query: "Idn't it done yet?". "Wadn't" was intermittent, seemed linked to following sounds: "It wasn't finished" and "It wadn't ready", but never "It wadn't finished." Born Missouri farming community 1910s, then deeeep blue collar PA. Some Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish in there too.
