cutting traces, lifting up IC pins, what tool to use?
May 27, 2012 · Do you use a soldering iron to lift up the IC pin? But the IC pin mostly breaks off. I use a pointy scalpel blade for cutting tracks and leg-lifting of SMD pins. After lifting, I use small pliers (where possible!) to straighten the leg flat horizontal out from the chip, this makes it …
Help! I broke off the leg of the IC chip. What do I do?
Sep 21, 2023 · The trace on the PCB goes nowhere visible. Maybe a multi layer PCB but it's entirely possible that leg is not used. Look up the child's data sheet and see if there's a pin out - that leg might be either redundant or unused.

Dec 30, 2017 · Through-holes are mostly for connectors and large parts. Many of today's IC's have a high pin density where 20 mil wide traces may have to narrow to 5 mils for IC's with 0.4mm pin centers. Most thru-holes on SMD boards are for via's.

Jan 16, 2014 · The bypass caps control (or try to) the noise on the power traces. The cap will filter noise on the trace before it gets to the ICs power pin, and will also filter noise created by an IC before it gets to the power trace.

The connection could be between a pin and a trace, a trace and a via, or a trace with an external or off-board device. Every pad is defined by its height, width, and diameter for top and bottom layers, and hole (if needed to be drilled), respectively.
integrated circuit - Longest, thinnest trace length to decoupling ...
The purpose of the capacitor is to provide a nice low impedance path between supply rails. The longer and thinner the trace, the larger the inductance of said trace, and the higher the resulting impedance (remember inductors are short at DC, and increase in impedance with frequency).
