IC 1287 is a Reflection Nebula in the Scutum constellation. IC 1287 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 6.1, IC 1287 is easily visible with the help of a small binocular.

VdB 124 (also catalogued as IC 1287, Ced 163, DG 154, LBN 75 and Magakian 773) is a reflection nebula in the constellation Scutum. Its illuminating star is the 5.5 mag. HD 170740 from spectral class B2V.

IC 1287 is the dominant blue reflection nebula in the image. In addition to IC 1287 is also the open cluster NGC 6649 and the dim planetary nebula PN G020.0-00.6. The smaller, dim emission nebula LBN 73 and dark nebula TGU H217 is to the right in this field.

In the area around this star is a bluish cloud which is the reflection nebula IC 1287, also known as VdB 124. The dust passing between us and the star is lit up by the light from this star. IC 1287 is roughly 44x34 arc minutes in size and lies some 680 light years distant.
