The 62GV first shipped in May 1974. Developed at IBM's Hursley, UK, laboratory under the code name Gulliver with an initial capacity of 5 MB. Subsequent models have 10 MB (62TM) and 14 MB capacities. It used a Swinging Arm actuator with one 14-inch disk.

The IBM 305 RAMAC was the first commercial computer that used a moving-head hard disk drive (magnetic disk storage) for secondary storage. [1] The system was publicly announced on September 14, 1956, [ 2 ] [ 3 ] with test units already installed at the U.S. Navy and at private corporations. [ 2 ]

To give you an idea of how big the hard drives were in 1956, a 5 MB Hard Disk that was manufactured by IBM could only be transported on a truck or airplane because it weighed almost a ton. September 1956 was a landmark date because it was when IBM released their new 305 RAMAC Super Computer.
