The Personal System/2 Model 55 SX is a midrange desktop computer in IBM 's Personal System/2 (PS/2) family of personal computers. First released in May 1989, the Model 55 SX features an Intel 386SX processor running at a clock speed of 16 MHz.

PS/2 Models 50 (IBM 8550) and 60 (IBM 8560) used the Intel 286 processor, the PS/2 Models 70 386 (IBM 8570) and 80 used the 386DX, while the mid-range PS/2 Model 55 SX (IBM 8555–081) and used the 16/32-bit 386SX processor.

The 55SX was the first PS/2 machine with an i386SX processor, Intel's stripped- down version of the i386DX processor. Since the CPU core is the same, you can run all 386 software on it, but at 16 MHz and with half the bus width, it's probably the slowest way of doing it...

Jan 19, 2009 · The IBM PS/2 model 55sx was IBM's attempt at a mid-range computer for business and professional use. The 55sx was the first IBM computer to utilize a 32 bit processor and contained a 16/32 bit Intel I386 processor soldered to the mainboard.

The 55SX takes PS/2 SIMMs, 1 MB, 2 MB, or 4 MB, either 85 ns or 100 ns. I'm pretty sure it can also take 80 ns SIMMs (definitely can in the 4mb size), but I'm not certain.

Mar 9, 2016 · I have bought an IBM PS/2 55SX. During booting it displays errors 165 and 163, and after pressing a function key (I don't remember which one, I think F2) it boots into ROM BASIC.
