The IBM JX (or JXPC) was a personal computer released in 1984 into the Japanese, Australian and New Zealand markets. Designed in Japan, it was based on the technology of the IBM PCjr and was designated the IBM 5511.

It included more memory, better graphics, dual 3.5-inch floppy drives on the higher-end models, a far better keyboard, and the option for an expansion chassis for a hard drive and 5.25 disk drive.

Basically, it is a crippled IBM PC, with proprietary slots and a few nifty features. It has an infa-red keyboard, a light pen port, 400k 3.5" drives, two cartridge slots and a three-voice sound chip. Sadly, it fails to run most IBM PC software without modification.

Jun 2, 2006 · It's better known as the IBMJX. From what I could find only released in Japan and Australia. Very kewl! Never saw one before... Lawrence pinned it correctly - that is a JX. The JX was a more advanced version of the PCjr for the Asia-Pacific market. It used 3.5" 720KB diskette drives instead of 5.25s.

Mar 20, 2021 · The Australian JX, Model 5511, is very, very close to the original IBM PCjr. in many respects. It boots up just like an IBM PCjr. does with a memory count, the large IBM logo and the 16 color strips. The graphic and sound capabilities should be fully PCjr. compatible.
