International House (I-House) is a residency program for graduate students and young professionals from around the world, built on the simple yet radical notion that living in a diverse community instills a lifelong dedication to cross-cultural understanding.

Jan 31, 2024 · All bedrooms at I-House are fully furnished, single-occupancy rooms. Residents enjoy many communal spaces to study, socialize, eat, dance, learn about fellow residents, and get involved in community life. The most rewarding experiences at International House occur in these shared spaces.

Since 1924, I-House has welcomed young people from all over the world to live, learn, and grow together.

Why I-House? Our global community comprises 700 resident members from nearly 100 countries including the United States, who attend any graduate program, participate in an internship or training program, or are a visiting scholar in the New York City area.

International House’s mission is to curate a collaborative, open-minded cohort dedicated to creating a more peaceful global future. All I-House residents are encouraged to interact with and participate in the community as much as possible.

The House is a microcosm of the world: diverse, challenging, surprising. Through an intentional admission process, we curate an eclectic, interdisciplinary cohort of open-minded individuals who come together at a key stage in life for a crash course in social and cultural intelligence.
