
Stain from Black Walnut husks - FineWoodworking
Jul 30, 2003 · Dark brown to black husk that are not completely dry produce a lot of stain and will stain your hands simply by picking the walnuts of the ground, at least in the case of Black Walnut nuts. I used to use the husk at this stage of drying to stain my traps every fall before the winter trapping season. It did an excellant job of staining the steel.

Dec 23, 2003 · ( Jeff says he has worked on some that had been bleached.) But I have been active in the industry since 1970, and I haven't heard of anyone using bleach in that time. Wood and veneers are selected for color, and the occasional dark street is handled with blowup stain, and light streaks of sapwood are tinted to match with sap (NGR) stain.

Jan 2, 2005 · After this has cured for a few days, I brush on two thin coats of de-waxed dark shellac and follow with super blond. It is the oil that is the key to it looking good. Also, depending on the project, I like to put on a glaze of a thin brown gel stain, after the first coat of shellac, this gives a little age and depth to the finish.

Aug 17, 2021 · These pics show pieces that I have sliced after drying for a few days and taking the husk off, although some that ai gad left to dry a little longer still have some husk on them, which I don’t mind, as I like the rustic look for buttons on vests and jackets made from up cycled blankets on the outer and vintage sheets as the lining.

Jun 26, 2022 · The coloring is done by the stain, in this case Georgian cherry gel stain from General finishes. One coat of Sealcoat by Zinsser , light sanding with a scotch brite and 3 coats of poly sanded 220 between coats.
