How does Hur affect mRNA translation?
HuR inhibits the translation of a small subset of target mRNAs that encode disease-associated proteins. HuR binds to the 5′UTRs of p27, IGF-1R, and thrombomodulin (TM) mRNAs and represses their translation; this inhibitory action was proposed to result from disruption of IRESs in these 5′UTRs (28 – 30).
