What is the easiest way to calculate E cell values? | MyTutor
This is a calculation which students often find tricky. One fail-safe method for doing this calculation is considering E cell = E (reduced) - E (Oxidised). A more positive electrode potential means that a species is more easily able to gain electrons (and therefore more easily reduced).
How would you find out whether a reaction is feasible?
To find out whether a reaction is feasible, you can calculate the Gibbs free energy change (ΔG) for that particular reaction. ΔG = ΔH - TΔSΔH is the enthalpy change for the reaction (which you can calculate from a Hess cycle), T is the temperature at which the reaction is occurring, and ΔS is the entropy change associated with the reaction.
When plant cells are placed in salt solution their appearance is ...
When the plant cells are placed in the salt solution, there is a higher concentration of water molecules in the cell and a lower concentration of water in the sal...
Compare anaerobic respiration in a yeast cell with anaerobic ...
Anaeobic respiration in yeast: glucose -> carbon dioxide + ethanol Anaerobic respiration in muscle cells: glucose -> lactic acid The lactic acid build up in muscles requires oxygen to be broken down and thus creates an oxygen debt, resulting in the animal breathing faster and more deeply to acquire a higher partial pressure of oxygen in their blood. The respiration in yeast results in ethanol ...
What is the relationship between K and ΔS total? - MyTutor
ΔStotal=RlnK This equation means that if ΔStotal is large and positive then K is large (much greater than 1) and the position of equilibrium is well to the righ...

How do you explain the change in membrane permeability as
Generally, increasing the temperature increases membrane permeability. At temperatures below 0 o C the phospholipids in the membrane don't have much energy and so they can't move much, which means that they're closely packed together and the membrane is rigid. Between 0 o C and 45 o C the permeability increases as phospholipids start to move around more, as they have more energy, and therefore ...
Describe the functions of glycoproteins in the cell surface
Glycoproteins can be antigens, enabling cell recognition of self and non-self cells. They also act as receptors for molecules such as hormones and drugs and pass ...

How do you differentiate x^x? - MyTutor
There are two ways we can find the derivative of x^x. It's important to notice that this function is neither a power function of the form x^k nor an exponential function of the form b^x, so we can't use the differentiation formulas for either of these cases directly.
