Jul 15, 2017 · For planning I used a nominal trainl train length of 60 inches this equates to approximately five coaches and one tender loco with a bit extra for float. This approximates to 290mm per coach ( based on the Hornby Triang long (Now Railroad) pullmans like morairamike's ones) and around 10" per loco.

Jun 17, 2012 · The Hornby long clerestories represent coaches that were built in the late 1890s, a few of which survived to BR days. The Triang clerestories style also matches that of coaches built in the 1890s. C10 thirds (same length as the non-brake coach but with an extra compartment) are frequently seen in photos of trains in the late 1930s.

Jun 21, 2020 · I have a decent layout size at 12’ x 9’ with long platforms and I would say a loco and four coaches or five car diesel/electric was long enough. Full length 10-12 coach trains would have the front arriving here before the back end had left there.

Jan 5, 2018 · There are the old "shorty" Hornby Mk3s out there, and they would save you about 6-8 inches I'd say. They are around the same length as a 64 foot Mk1/Mk2 coach. Also remember that with long modern coaches there's quite an overhang so if you're using tight curves (inc pointwork, crossovers, etc) to fit in a station they might strike the platform.

Oct 18, 2023 · The ones to avoid are the very old Hornby mk3s, which had 7 windows instead of 8. they just look wrong too, both coaches are 23m long IRL, so scale to just over 300mm. All the mk4s have been appropriate length.

Jul 8, 2015 · I have expanded my range with some GWR maroon liveried long clearstories by changing the transfers on some of the Hornby midland cleredtories from the 1980s. I agree there needs to be more pre-grouping stock to match the locos.

Hornby Chinese made Mk3 long/full length coach (HST trailer) chassis (NO BOGIES). Complete with adhesion weight and all 4 buffers. Item is in excellent condition without any fault that I can see.
