Jun 12, 2011 · HONfest is an annual celebration in honor of these women. Since 1994, HONfest has grown from a tiny Baltimore’s Best Hon Pageant to a nationally recognized festival that covers four city blocks along West 36th Street in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore.

HONfest truly began many years ago in Baltimore neighborhoods, when local ladies adorned with beehive hairdos and cat-eye glasses, created a culture unique to Baltimore. They were happy, proud women who treated everyone with kindness and called everyone “Hon”.

Ms. Denise is the founder of Honfest and her mom, Mrs. Judy, was one of our judges. Judge Judy created our very high standards. Ten years of therapy and Ms. Denise is doing just fine now. Psst: Our judges give extra points for a real “wash & set” updo because it’s full of hope and hairspray.
