The Honda XR series is a range of four-stroke off-road motorcycles that were designed in Japan but assembled all over the world. Some of the XR series came in two versions: R and L . The R version bikes were enduro machines designed for off-road competitive riding.

The Honda XR600R was an offroad dual-sport motorcycle powered by an air-cooled single cylinder, four-stroke engine, manufactured by Honda from 1985 to 2000, and is part of the Honda XR series. The currently available road oriented XR650L model is similar to the XR600R with an engine of more displacement but lower compression and less horsepower.

Like Honda's Baja 1000 race-winning XR500s, the 600 featured recalibrated, longer-travel suspension; a new frame with a stout square-section downtube and aluminum swingarm; and an easy-access, no-tools-required airbox cover.

Honda claims the longer-stroke engine puts the power to the ground better than the larger-bore, shorter-stroke XL600. There are other aspects of the new XR that make it different from either one of its ancestors, too.
