Jan 10, 2011 · VCM is mostly availible on Hondas with the J35Z engine. The only 4 cylinder that has it is the one in the newer hybrid Civics. From what I’ve heard Honda’s VCM doesn’t have any long standing problems, it’s just that it’s not really effective in saving a meaningful amount of fuel.

Honda VCM technology has been put in Ody, Accord hybrid '05, 06, 07 for years now. V6 08's VCM has been refined with 4 cyclinders working at time besides the 3 or 6 cylinders. My Accord hybrid '05 gets 37K miles with absolutely NO NOTICE on VCM mechanism.

With the new Accord, Honda introduced second generation VCM. This version added yet another mode. Now, the engine is able to operate in 6 or 4 or 3 cylinder modes depending on need. Mar 7, 2008 · Does anybody have any info on the 2008 Honda Accord V-6 VCM issues? VCM= Vehicle cylinder management, where the engine shuts off 2-4 cylinders for fuel efficiency. Many new owners are bemoaning this system while others say they have no issues.

Having owned Honda Accords since 1981, and most receently a 1997 Accord V6, a 2000 Accord V6, and a 2004 V6 Coupe, we bought a 2008 V6 with VCM with great confidence in December 2007. In early 2011, with only 28,000 miles on it, all hell broke loose on a trip from NYC to our son's house in NJ.
