Jun 15, 2008 · As sweet as the Vox AC30 is, its clean is actaully fairly dirty thus edgy. You can't compare it to even a 50w Hiwatt with those enormous Partridge trannies. Hiwatt is a true, rich, high headroom clean.

I remember Mhuss as being an active member of Plexi Palace Forum (as mentionned earlier), and learned a lot from him when I discovered Hiwatt and purchased mine more than 15 years ago). If you live in Europe, a vintage Hiwatt DR103 can still be found around 2500€.

Apr 20, 2018 · Is there a huge difference between the DR504 and DR103 amps? Obviously the 100 watts will be louder with more headroom. But the nature of the HiWatt circuit is already clean until small rodents within 100 yards start dying from the sound waves exploding internal organs.

Aug 26, 2015 · As a Hiwatt owner and player, I'd have to say that they are the odd men out in that list. Very different from the Marshall style amps you're otherwise looking at. Just get a JMP style amp with a master volume and you're good!

Jun 7, 2010 · Well this is a bit more tricky since you are in the UK and have access to the UK built Hiwatts, so you'll want to compare prices between the Music Ground Hiwatts and buying an imported U.S. built Reeves For a bit more headroom, I'd go for the Reeves 12 either with or without Power Scaling.
