For last few Diwalis we I have been making Rangoli with Lentils and other stuff available in pantry. I find it much easier to deal with bigger size pieces to ensure that boundaries are cleaner. The traditional way of making Rangoli in my village (in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh) is to use rice flour in dry or wet form.
