Since its founding in 1946, the work of HEKS/EPER has been shaped by advocacy on behalf of refugees and displaced persons. In Switzerland today, HEKS/EPER provides legal representation and advice to refugees and asylum seekers and, through various integration projects, promotes migrant participation in social life on an equal basis.

HEKS/EPER provides humanitarian assistance around the world for victims of disasters caused by natural hazards and armed conflicts and supports the diaconal work of churches in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Through its programmes in Switzerland, HEKS/EPER champions the rights and causes of refugees and socially underprivileged people.

In over 30 countries on four continents, Swiss Church Aid HEKS/EPER supports development cooperation projects to combat poverty and injustice, and advocates for a life in dignity for all people. In parallel, HEKS/EPER also strives for systemic change through its development work – in Switzerland and worldwide.

HEKS/EPER supports development cooperation, humanitarian aid and church cooperation projects in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe. HEKS/EPER runs its own Coordination Offices in 17 priority countries or primary-focus regions.

HEKS/EPER has successfully completed the first year since the merger with Bread for All, both organizationally and financially. The annual financial statements as of end-2022 recorded income of 114 million francs (up 15,4 per cent) and a good operating result of 5,8 million francs.

HEKS/EPER became a non-profit foundation in 2004, with its headquarters in Zurich. Its supreme body is the Board of Trustees, which tasks the Executive Board with operational management. The Board is supported by the Heads of the Branch Offices.

In Ethiopia Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER) provides life-saving assistance to people affected by crises and it assists vulnerable communities to build their livelihoods and increase their preparedness and resilience to shocks caused by climatic hazards or conflicts.

The HEKS/EPER Country Programme in Cambodia supports projects by local p artner organizations in six provinces. The aim is to ensure food security for the rural population and strengthen their empowerment with the objective to promote sustainable rural development.
