Jan 26, 2017 · For the v2 CPU's, the prices for the E5-1650 v2 seem to be going down lately - quite a lot of supply from i.a. the 'new' Mac Pro cylinder users upgrading. But I have a E5-1650 v1 so this may not be a worthwhile upgrade.

Sep 6, 2023 · The V3/V4 CPU's are only compatible with the HP Zx40 workstations, (and require a different CPU socket). Please also make sure your Z420 BIOS is up-to-date before upgrading. If you're planning on gaming, then I would recommend an E5-1650 or E5-1660 CPU as these have higher base frequencies.

There is the main FAN which is big, and then there is a secondary fan which is way smaller and is located way down near the motherboard. This fan has started to make an very annoying rattling sound when the CPU is working hard.

Nov 5, 2015 · To determine if the Z420 can support the v2 CPUs, look in the F10 BIOS setup for the boot block date - If the Z420 has a boot block date of 12/28/2011, it supports only the v1 CPUs - If the Z420 has a boot block block of 03/06/2013, it supports both the v1 and v2 CPUs. HP does not support updating the boot block.
