Feb 6, 2022 · On the back of the painting, which I saved from his house clearance, is a record of John McPherson R.N. stating this man had served on HMS Lion between 1918 and 1920. John McPherson may well have been a member of the cousin’s wife’s family, the painting possibly handed down through generations although I am guessing at this.

Mar 10, 2018 · Clearly served in LION in 1916 but the month of joining is impossible to read (is it March 1916?). He also served in HMS TIGER at the Dogger Bank engagement in early 1915. The "Antwerp" mention seems to be a red herring.
