Montana Medicaid and HMK Plus are healthcare benefits for eligible low-income Montanans. Montana Medicaid and HMK Plus pays for services that are: Medicaid/HMK Plus covered services. The Montana Department of Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has extended coverage to postpartum women.

Healthy Montana Kids (HMK), Montana's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), offers a free or low-cost health insurance plan providing coverage to eligible Montana children up to age 19. Covered services include medical, dental, eyeglasses, and other related services.

BCBSMT will send you an HMK benefit card. Carry this card with you at all times and show it to your provider when you get care. This card is also used for obtaining prescription drugs, and for visits to the dentist and eye doctor. DPHHS is reaching out to Medicaid recipients about their Medicaid or HMK coverage. You can check the status of an application through your account on the state’s application website: www.apply.mt.gov. Your healthcare provider or pharmacy may also be able to look you up to see if you are approved for Medicaid.

Those with insurance cards for HMK include the logo for Blue Cross Blue Shield and are potentially affected by CHIP funding expiring. Children whose cards say Medicaid or HMK Plus are in the Medicaid program and are not affected.

Between April 2023 and January 2024, all 320,000 Montanans enrolled in Medicaid or Healthy Montana Kids will go through a renewal process to make sure they still qualify for health coverage.
