New initiatives on clinical service included gastroenterology and nutrition, rheumatology, metabolic medicine, clinical genetics, community paediatrics, behavioural paediatrics, and clinical bioinformatics.

The department has started to reform the undergraduate paediatric curriculum in line with the New Medical Curriculum initiated by the Faculty in 1997. Much emphasis is put on self-learning.
