In addition to the standard full-length rifle (with a 15.35 inch barrel), a shorter version was made as the HK33K (with a collapsing stock and 12.4 inch barrel).

The Heckler & Koch HK33 was developed following the success of the 7.62x59mm G3. The HK33 is essentially a G3 chambered for the 5.56mm x 45mm NATO cartridge and is usually fed from a 25 or 30 round magazine.

The HK33 was essentially a scaled-down G3. While the HK33 wasn’t adopted by West Germany it proved a popular export rifle and remained into production into the 1980s.

It is actually an updated version of the civilian HK43 Rifle (which was the semi auto sporting rifle variant of the HK33 imported 1974). It differs from the select fire HK33 by way of a metal trigger pack, no push pin assembly and no paddle release as well as the single "0" and "1" fire select settings (indicating it is a Semi Auto only rifle).
